Archery Championship: The whole of India is waiting for the One Day World Cup, which is starting from October 5 in India itself. Everyone wants Team India to become the world champion again after 12 years. Whether this will happen or not, it will be known only in November, but India has already got a world champion before that. That too only at the age of 17. India's Aditi Swami has created history by doing this feat in the World Archery Championship being held in Berlin, the capital of Germany. Aditi won the gold medal in the women's compound event and thus became the first world champion of archery from India. Apart from Aditi, India's Jyoti Surekha also won the bronze medal.

A day before the event held in Berlin on Saturday, August 5, Aditi had become world champion once. Then he played an important role in getting India the gold medal in the team event. Now it was her turn to create history single-handedly, and in its path, apart from many legendary archers of the world, Aditi's team event partner and experienced Indian player Jyoti was also there. Aditi surprised Jyoti in the semi-finals and made it to the finals.

Defeated Archer 6 years older

In the final, Aditi faced Andrea Baquera of Mexico, 6 years older than her, who had already won the bronze of this event in 2021. A day earlier, the Indian team including Aditi had won the gold by defeating Bakera and her other teammates from Mexico. Once again both of them faced each other and in a very exciting match, Aditi defeated Bakera by a close margin of 149-147 and captured the World Championship. On the other hand, Jyoti, who lost to Aditi in the semi-finals, made a comeback and won the bronze medal match.

Youngest world champion

By achieving this feat at the age of just 17, Aditi also made a world record. She has become the youngest player in the history of World Archery to become World Champion. This is the first time in the history of Indian archery, when in any event (recurve and compound), any male or female archer has won individual gold. Before Aditi, veteran archer Deepika Kumari had won silver medals in 2011 and 2015. On the other hand, Tarundeep Rai and Atanu Das had also won silver medals among men.

Second gold in 30 days

This gold of Aditi is not only special because she won the first World Championship for India, but also because she ruled the world from junior archery to senior archery within a month. Last month itself, Aditi had won the under-18 gold. On July 8, Aditi won the World Championship by defeating the American archer.
