SCO Summit 2022 / After three years India-Pakistan PM will be on one platform - SCO summit will be special in these ways

SCO Summit 2022: SCO ie Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit is being organized in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. In which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be involved. PM Modi will leave for Samarkand this afternoon to participate in this summit. They are expected to reach Samarkand at around 6 pm. After which PM Modi will attend the SCO meeting on 16 September. This time the SCO Summit is special in many ways. The PM of Pakistan and the President of China are also attending this summit.

Will you meet Pakistani PM?

Relations between India and Pakistan have not always been good. India stopped talks with Pakistan after the Pulwama terror attack. Since the Pathankot attack in 2016, there has been no bilateral dialogue between the two countries at any forum in the world. In 2019, there was a small meeting between PM Modi and the then Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. Which was named the courtesy meeting. However, it was made clear from India's side that there would be no talks with Pakistan in the summit.

Now after three years i.e. in 2022, the Prime Ministers of both the countries will once again be on this platform. However, this time also the chances of talks are less visible. PM Modi will face Pakistan's PM Shahbaz Sharif for the first time. If talks take place between the two leaders, it will be very important for Indo-Pak trade. Pakistan would like it to talk to India at any cost, because there the floods have caused havoc and the already crumbling economy has been completely destroyed. However, PM Modi can once again raise the issue of terrorism in front of the Pak PM.

Meeting with Jinping amid disengagement at LAC

In this SCO summit being held in Samarkand, PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are going to meet after about 34 months. This meeting is considered very important regarding the India-China border dispute. The last meeting between the two took place in 2019 during the BRICS conference. This will be the first meeting of the two after the border dispute. Just before this summit, some leniency was shown from the side of China and the army was withdrawn from all the disputed areas on the LAC. The armies of India and China have also removed their bunkers from the disputed areas. After which the work of disengaging is almost complete.

After the disengagement between the armies of India and China, there is an improvement in relations. In such a situation, it is believed that apart from the border dispute, there can be talks between PM Modi and Jinping on many other issues. Due to bad relations, trade between the two countries was also affected a lot. Now the conversation can go ahead regarding this as well.

What is Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was formed in 2001. It has a total of 8 permanent members including India, Pakistan, Russia and China. It is a geopolitical and security organization. Initially it had a total of 6 members... which included Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. After which India and Pakistan also joined it. Apart from this, 6 dialogue partners and 4 observer countries are also included in this. The next meeting of the SCO will be held in India in 2023 next year.
