Russia-Ukraine War / After Trump's indifference, France becomes Ukraine's savior, providing information to Kiev

After the US refused to give military intelligence to Ukraine, France has come forward and promised help. President Emmanuel Macron assured Ukraine to give all the intelligence information. Along with this, he also stressed the need to discuss European security and nuclear deterrence capability.

Russia-Ukraine War: France has emerged as Ukraine's new ally after the US announced a ban on sharing intelligence with Ukraine. French President Emmanuel Macron has assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of providing all possible intelligence military information. After this assurance, the French army has started providing important intelligence to war-torn Ukraine.

French Defense Minister Sebastian Lecornu said in this regard that "Our intelligence is sovereign, and we are free to share it with Ukraine." He said that after the US decision to suspend military aid and intelligence to Ukraine, France has decided to intensify its assistance. President Macron has directed the rapid implementation of various French aid packages to meet Ukraine's needs.

Considering European nuclear deterrence capability

In view of the deteriorating situation in Ukraine, France is considering strengthening Europe's nuclear deterrence capability. President Macron said on Wednesday that he would discuss nuclear security strategy with European allies to deal with the growing threats from Russia. He stressed that according to the nuclear deterrence theory, attacking nuclear-armed nations should be avoided, as this greatly increases the possibility of a retaliatory nuclear attack. Since France is the only nuclear power in the European Union, this issue is important for Europe's security.

Macron's position on nuclear weapons

The French President made it clear that the control of French nuclear weapons will remain in his hands only. He said that he has decided to initiate a comprehensive discussion on nuclear strategy for the security of Europe. This reaction came in response to the proposal of Germany's recent election winner Friedrich Merz, in which he appealed to discuss a "nuclear partnership" with France.

Russia's military expansion plan and Europe's preparation

President Macron has expressed serious concern about Russia's military strategy. He said that Russia is spending 40% of its budget on military needs and plans to strengthen its army with 3,00,000 additional soldiers, 3,000 tanks and 300 fighter planes by 2030. He questioned whether Russia would stop after attacking Ukraine, or would it go ahead and target other European countries as well.

Addressing European leaders, Macron said they would have to ensure that if a peace agreement is signed in the future, Russia could not attack Ukraine again. He also indicated that a possible deployment of the European army to support Ukraine in the long term could also be considered.

Trump administration's stance on Europe's security

Former US President Donald Trump's administration had made it clear that Europe should take responsibility for its own security. Trump administration officials have indicated that the US cannot always cooperate in Europe's security at the current level. For this reason, the European Union now needs to become self-reliant regarding its security.

In view of this entire situation, France is now emerging as an important security partner for Europe and is moving forward to strengthen military assistance to Ukraine.
