Starlink Satellite: Elon Musk, the most respected tech entrepreneur in the US, openly supported Republican candidate Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election. Musk not only supported Trump but also donated a huge amount to make his victory possible. After this support, Musk got a lot of relief from Trump's victory. But soon after this, another big good news has come for him from India. Musk's satellite internet company, Starlink, is planning to expand its services in India, and the latest decision of the Government of India has now made this path a little easier for him.

Allocation of spectrum: Direct allocation, not auction

Recently, India's Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced the important decision on spectrum allocation for satellite broadband. He clarified that satellite broadband spectrum will not be auctioned, but it will be administratively allocated. This decision is in line with India's leading telecom companies, Reliance Jio and Airtel, who have been in favor of spectrum allocation.

Scindia further said that the spectrum will not be given for free. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will fix a fair price for this, so that transparency is maintained. This makes it clear that this step of the Government of India takes into account the interests of not only Starlink but also other telecom companies of the country.

Following international policies

Scindia also said on this occasion that India will follow the principles of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which makes a clear policy in the matter of allocation of spectrum related to satellite and space. He said that most countries around the world do not auction satellite spectrum, but allocate it directly. According to the principles of ITU, the assignment of spectrum is done directly to those companies which are eligible for it.

Demand of Jio and Airtel

Major telecom operators like Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have been considering this issue for a long time. Both the companies believe that there is a need to auction for satellite broadband spectrum so that telecom operators can also get equal opportunities. Airtel owner Sunil Mittal and Jio's Mukesh Ambani have raised this issue several times, so that the old operators can also maintain their share in the competition.

They believe that direct allocation to satellite companies without auction can lead to unequal competition with operators using terrestrial wireless networks. However, the government's decision is now indicating that India is ready to welcome new possibilities in the field of satellite broadband.

Starlink ready to enter India

Elon Musk's Starlink is ready to start its services in India. Musk's company in the US has already expanded satellite internet service to many countries through Starlink and is now eager to enter a large and fast-growing internet market like India.

However, big telecom operators like Jio and Airtel are also planning to invest in this sector, which will compete with Musk's Starlink. But this decision of the government is sure that new opportunities will open up rapidly in the field of satellite broadband in India.

Conclusion

This decision of the Indian government has strengthened the business prospects for Elon Musk's Starlink and other companies in India. This decision can prove to be an important step for Musk, as it will give his company Starlink a chance to establish its services in India.
