In view of the steady decline in corona cases in the country, the Union Home Ministry has announced to end all the restrictions imposed for the prevention of the epidemic. Corona restrictions will end from March 31. After two years, the people of the country got rid of these restrictions. Now only a distance of two yards will have to be maintained and masks will have to be applied.

The Central Government had issued the guidelines of Corona for the first time on 24 March 2020 under the Disaster Management Act 2005 (DM Act 2005). After this, changes were made in this guideline on many occasions. In a letter sent to the Chief Secretaries of all the states, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said that in the last 24 months, various capacities have been developed for epidemic management. These include testing, surveillance, contact tracing, treatment, vaccination, development of hospitals. Along with this, awareness about Kovid has also increased among the common people. They have started behaving friendly towards prevention of Kovid.

Bhalla has said in the letter that the states and union territories have also made efforts at their level to achieve the capacity of epidemic management. In the last seven weeks, there has been a sharp decrease in new cases of corona. On March 22, the total number of active cases in the country was only 23,913. The daily positivity rate is also 0.28.

It is also worth mentioning that 181.56 crore doses of anti-Covid vaccines have been given to the countrymen so far due to the joint efforts of the Center and the states. Bhalla said that after the expiry of the existing order on March 31, no further orders will be issued by the Home Ministry. However, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare advised on COVID containment measures, including face masks and hand washing.

The Union Home Secretary said that in view of the nature of the disease, people still need to be alert to the situation. He also said that whenever there is any increase in the number of corona cases, the states and union territories can take prompt and proactive action at the local level. This is advised by the Ministry of Health from time to time.
