Al-Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh died in the West Bank early Wednesday after being shot. The killing of Shireen in an Israeli army gunfight in the northern West Bank town of Jenin has been described by Qatar-based media and Palestine as a crime. She was reporting at that time.

Broadcaster Al-Jazeera blamed Israeli forces for the death of its journalist, while the Israeli military says it is investigating the matter. Famous Palestinian journalist Shirin Abu Akleh was a well-known reporter for the Arabic-speaking channel.

"We call on the international community to condemn and hold accountable Israeli forces for deliberately targeting and killing our ally Shirin," Qatar's broadcaster said in a statement on its channel. In a video of the incident, Shireen is seen wearing a blue colored 'Flak' jacket with 'PRESS' written on it.

This shocking crime: Palestine

The Israeli military has said that their forces in Jenin were subjected to heavy fire and explosives. After this the army retaliated. The military said it was investigating the incident and the journalist may have been hit by Palestinian gunmen. The Palestinian Authority condemned the attack, saying it was a shocking crime committed by an Israeli force.
