Asaram Bapu Bail / Asaram gets interim bail till March 31, serving life sentence in rape case

Asaram Bapu Bail: Asaram was in jail since the lower court of Gandhinagar sentenced him to life imprisonment in the 2013 rape case. Now, after a long time, the Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Asaram on medical grounds. Some conditions have also been imposed on this bail granted till March 31, including that he will not tamper with any evidence during this period and is not allowed to meet his followers.

Bail conditions and medical grounds

The Supreme Court made it clear during the bail that relief has been granted only for medical reasons. The court has ordered that during this time Asaram will not indulge in any objectionable activity, which may affect the investigation of the case. In particular, Asaram has also been forbidden from meeting his followers, so that there is no external pressure or influence of any kind.

Treatment in jail

Asaram is currently being treated at the Arogya Medical Center in the jail. He is a heart patient and has faced serious medical problems due to heart attack earlier also. Earlier also the court had granted him bail on medical grounds, but this time the Supreme Court has provided this interim relief keeping in mind the seriousness of his health.

Petition to suspend sentence rejected

Asaram's lawyer had filed a petition to suspend the sentence several times, but the court rejected it. The court made it clear that relief can be given only on medical grounds, and no other type of relief will be given in this case.

Son also in jail

A rape case was also registered against Asaram's son Narayan Sai. In 2019, Narayan Sai was also sentenced to life imprisonment. The FIR of rape charges against Asaram was registered in 2013 at Chandkheda police station in Ahmedabad. Currently Narayan Sai is also in jail, and both father and son are serving sentence in different cases in jail.

The bail granted to Asaram can prove to be a turning point not only for him but for the entire case. While on one hand the court granted bail considering medical reasons, on the other hand it is also being seen keeping in mind the gravity of the case and public interest.
