Australia's women's cricket team has broken the record of their country's men's team, captained by Ricky Ponting, by defeating New Zealand by six wickets on Sunday and winning the 22nd match in a row. The Australian women's team has not lost any ODI since October 2017.

In fact, the women's team of Australia surpassed the record of winning the most consecutive ODI international matches (21) of their own men's team made in 2003.

Australia captain Meg Lenning decided to bowl first after winning the toss in the first match of the three-match series and then bowled New Zealand for 212, thanks to four wickets from the match's best player, Megan Shute.

Australia then won by six wickets with 69 balls remaining thanks to half-centuries from Alyssa Healy (65), Alice Parry (56 not out) and Ashleigh Gardner (53 not out).

The current World Champion team thus surpassed Ponting's 2003 team's record of 21 consecutive wins with 22 consecutive wins.

Meg Lenning said after the match, 'This is a great achievement for this team for a long time. We recorded this win in three years, which shows how much consistency there is in our team's performance in this format. '
