Muhammad Yunus: Bangladesh's Chief Advisor Dr. Mohammad Yunus is going to visit China soon. The Bangladesh Foreign Ministry is busy preparing for this visit and considers it important to strengthen bilateral relations. Since the coup of the Hasina government, the interim government of Bangladesh has been more inclined towards China, but dependence on India has prevented it from completely going in favor of China.Effort for balanced foreign policyDuring this visit, the interim government's focus is on maintaining balanced relations with major global powers, especially India. The government wants to ensure that the growing ties with Beijing do not give any wrong signals to other countries. The question arises whether Bangladesh will be able to strengthen its relations with China without spoiling relations with India.Indication of relations with ChinaAccording to the Dhaka Tribune, a Foreign Ministry official said that China is extremely important for Bangladesh in terms of politics, trade and development cooperation. Along with this, strong relations with China will also give a message to other countries that Bangladesh is moving towards adopting an independent foreign policy.Another official said Bangladesh is taking its steps keeping in mind China's position in regional and global geopolitics and is also assessing possible reactions. He also said that Bangladesh holds strategic sovereignty and is free to take its own decisions, but it is also necessary to communicate with other countries to clarify what is the purpose of growing ties with China.Independence of foreign policyThere are many experts in Bangladesh who support the policy of reducing dependence on India. They believe that every country has the right to determine its foreign policy according to national interests and Bangladesh is also working in this direction.Growing ties with ChinaThe Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Security Initiative (GSI), and Global Civilization Initiative (GCI) proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping are at the core of Bangladesh-China relations. In 2022, China launched GDI for the first time in Bangladesh, and it may be a major topic during the upcoming visit of Dr. Muhammad Yunus.A Dhaka Tribune official said Bangladesh was carefully evaluating the initiative and making its decision taking into account all geopolitical factors.
