India-Bangladesh News: Bangladesh Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has been showing special interest in India for the past few days. He knows that it may be difficult to maintain stability for a long time by spoiling relations with India. That is why he wants to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the BIMSTEC Summit to be held in Bangkok, but there has been no official response from India so far. In this letter, he has described the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War as a guide for India-Bangladesh relations. Modi wrote in his letter that this spirit is strengthening the relations between the two countries and is providing concrete benefits to their citizens.What did PM Modi write?Prime Minister Modi wrote that India and Bangladesh are committed to fulfilling shared aspirations for peace, stability and prosperity. He also said that both countries should remain sensitive to each other's concerns and interests.It is worth noting that relations between the two countries became strained after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's Awami League government in Bangladesh on 5 August 2024. Hasina returned to India after massive protests, and Yunus took over as the chief advisor of the interim government in Bangladesh.Will they meet at the BIMSTEC Summit?Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Muhammad Yunus are scheduled to attend the BIMSTEC Summit to be held in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand on 3-4 April. Yunus wants to hold bilateral talks with PM Modi, but there has been no clear response from India so far. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had informed the parliamentary committee that this appeal of Bangladesh is being considered.Yunus's India visit and China visitYunus is on a visit to China, but he had earlier expressed his desire to visit India. According to his press secretary Shafiqul Alam, the Indian side was informed about Yunus's desire to visit India in December 2024 itself, but he did not receive any positive response. Yunus is the second leader from South Asia to visit China in the last four months. Earlier, Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli visited China on a four-day visit in December 2024.India's stand on BangladeshIndia does not seem to be in a mood to give much priority to Bangladesh at this time. The Ministry of External Affairs told a parliamentary committee that the Bangladesh government has not taken appropriate steps regarding the persecution of minorities. The ministry also said that the severity of the violence against Hindus after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government has also been downplayed. Apart from this, extremist groups promoting the ideology of Islamic rule in Bangladesh are trying to take advantage of political instability.
