IPL Auction 2022 | A big update is coming out regarding the mega auction to be held before IPL 2022, where the talk of change in its dates is coming out. Till now BCCI and IPL Governing Council were planning to hold IPL 2022 auction in the first week of next month but now the dates can go ahead. According to a report, the mega auction of IPL can be held in the third week of January instead of the first week. The reason for this is that the BCCI has not yet given permission to the new franchise Ahmedabad to buy players.

Speaking to Inside Sport, a BCCI official said, "The mega auction is not possible before the third week of January as they are still waiting for the decision of the Ahmedabad franchise. Unless this is done, the auction dates cannot be finalised. Apart from this, we have to give proper window to both Lucknow and Ahmedabad. They have to sign their three players before the auction. We will probably not see the auction before the third and fourth week of January.

This will be the format of IPL after new teams are added

Currently, an IPL team plays a total of 14 league matches, in which it plays seven matches at home and the remaining seven matches outside. Now with 10 teams, there is a possibility that the number of league matches will also increase, but due to the lack of a big window for the IPL amid the international schedule, BCCI would like to focus on 14 matches keeping the option of 18 league matches open. The total number of league matches can be 74 or 94 depending on the window available. Next year when the current cycle of media rights ends, there will be 74 matches in which all teams will play seven matches at home and seven matches outside in two group formats.
