Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP on Thursday announced 'Metro Man' E Sreedharan as its Chief Minister candidate for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections. The 88-year-old joined the BJP last week.

BJP state president K Surendran, who made the announcement, has said that Kerala will witness rapid development activities once an NDA government led by Sreedharan as Chief Minister comes to power. He has highlighted the completion of the reconstruction of the Palaraivattom flyover in Kochi within five months by a team led by Sreedharan while the estimated time for completion was 18 months.

It may be recalled that Sreedharan himself had earlier expressed his wish to be the chief minister. Though he already said that he will be contesting in the April 6 Assembly elections, the party is yet to decide the constituency.

Sreedharan stepped down from the DMRC principal advisor post on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Sreedharan's statement praising Uralungal Labour Contactors Cooperative Society (ULCCS) that carried out the work of the flyover reconstruction under his guidance had not gone down well with the BJP state leadership as ULCCS's various deals with the Kerala Left-front government had faced corruption allegations.

BJP state president said that Sreedharan might be unaware of the corruptions of ULCC.
