Road Accident / Bus carrying passengers from Pakistan to Iraq crashes, 28 passengers killed

Late Tuesday night, a bus carrying Shia pilgrims from Pakistan to Iraq crashed in central Iran. 28 people were killed and 23 injured in the accident, 14 of them seriously. There were 51 people on board the bus, who were going to Iraq for Arbaeen.

Road Accident: Late Tuesday night, a bus carrying Shia pilgrims from Pakistan to Iraq crashed in Yazd province of central Iran. The accident killed 28 pilgrims, while 23 were injured, of which 14 are in critical condition. The bus was carrying 51 people, who were going to Iraq for the ritual of Arbaeen. Shia Muslims of Pakistan travel to Iraq via Iran for this ritual, where every year millions of Shias gather to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain in Karbala. The incident has raised questions about road safety in Iran, where an average of 17,000 people lose their lives in road accidents every year.

51 people were on the bus

Emergency service official Mohammad Ali Malakzadeh said that a total of 51 people were on the bus at the time of the accident. The pilgrims were going to Iraq for Arbaeen, a ritual performed on the 40th day of the martyrdom of a Shia prophet in the seventh century.

Large numbers of pilgrims go to Iraq

Let us tell you that there is a large number of Shias in Pakistan. Shia pilgrims choose the route of Iran to go to Iraq. Every year lakhs of Shias go to Karbala for Arbaeen, a ritual held to commemorate the 40th day of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain. Another thing to note is that this accident has put Iran's road safety in the dock. On an average, 17,000 people die every year in road accidents in the country.
