Bus Accident News: A tragic accident shook the city of Maharashtra's capital Mumbai on Monday night. A speeding government bus lost control in Kurla area and wreaked havoc within a radius of 100 meters. The accident took place on SG Barve Road near the local Anjum-e-Islam School, where the bus crushed dozens of vehicles and pedestrians in a crowded area.Details of the incidentOn Monday night around 9:50 pm, BEST's electric bus (MH-01, EM-8228) was going from Kurla to Andheri. The bus went out of control and hit the RCC column of a building, hitting more than 40 vehicles. The collision was so strong that the boundary wall of the building collapsed. So far 7 people have died in the accident, while 49 people are injured. The condition of many of them is said to be critical and they are being treated at the nearby Kurla Bhabha Hospital.Reason for the accident: Questions remainThe reason behind the accident is not yet clear. Eyewitnesses present at the spot say that the bus driver was drunk. However, the police have not confirmed this claim. According to DCP Zone 5 Ganesh Gawade, the cause of the accident is under investigation. At the same time, Shiv Sena MLA Dilip Lande believes that the brakes of the bus had failed, due to which the driver panicked and accidentally pressed the accelerator.Scene of terror and relief workAfter the accident, there was a stampede at the spot. The cries of the injured were heard all around on the road. Local people were seen running here and there to save their lives. As soon as the information about the accident was received, police and fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and started relief work. The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital.Treatment of the injured continuesAccording to Dr. Padmashree Ahire of Kurla Bhabha Hospital, out of the 49 injured brought to the hospital, 7 people have died. Many of the injured are in critical condition, whose treatment is going on.Police investigation and driver under questionThe police have taken the bus driver into custody and the bus has been sent for RTO inspection. The driver is being questioned, but it is not yet clear whether he was drunk or not.
