Chhath Puja 2021: Although Chhath Puja is mainly celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand and Eastern Uttar Pradesh, but now it has become a global identity. In this festival of folk faith, the rising and setting sun is worshipped. Due to the fasting of Surya Shashti, it is called Chhath. Chhath festival is celebrated twice a year. First time in Chaitra and second time in Kartik. The Chhath festival celebrated on Chaitra Shukla Paksha Shashthi is called Chaiti Chhath and the festival celebrated on Kartik Shukla Paksha Shashthi is called Kartiki Chhath. Chhath celebrated in the month of Kartik has more recognition and in this month people celebrate this festival widely.This four-day long festival begins with Nahay-Khay on the Shukla Paksha Chaturthi Tithi of Kartik month, which this time falls on Monday, November 8. On the day of Nahay-Khay, the fasting takes a dip in the Ganges or a nearby river, a pond. and eat sattvik food only once. The Panchami of Kartik month is also known as Kharna. On this day, the fasting eats jaggery, arva rice kheer and roti in the evening as prasad. After this, Arghya is offered to Lord Sun in the evening on the third day and to the rising Sun on the fourth day. The special thing is that on the day of Kharna, after accepting the Prasad in the evening, for about 36 hours, that is, till the rising sun is offered Ardhya, the fasting fast is Nirjala. Before sunset, all the delicacies are flared in bamboo baskets and taken to the nearby ghat. There is also a belief that the first offering of the new crop is offered in Chhath Puja. Therefore sugarcane fruit is offered as prasad. The ghat is built by erecting 4-5 sugarcanes and lamps are lit under it. All the men and women who observe the fast, take a bath in the water and take these branches in their hands and offer them to Goddess Shashti and Lord Surya. After sunset everyone returns to their homes. On the next day i.e. Kartik Shukla Saptami, before sunrise, in Brahma Muhurta, then after placing dishes, coconut and fruits in the branches, all the devotees gather on the banks of the river and offer Arghya to the rising sun.
