Delhi Assembly / Cong's 1st list of candidates for Delhi polls out, Alka to fight from Chandni Chowk

Congress party announced their first list of 54 candidates for the 70-seat Delhi Assembly elections. Alka Lamba will contest from Chandni Chowk, while former Delhi minister Ashok Walia has been fielded from Krishna Nagar and Arvinder Singh Lovely will fight from Gandhi Nagar. The elections will take place on February 8, while the counting will be held on February 11.

Congress party on Saturday released its first list of 54 candidates for Delhi assembly elections. Polling for Delhi elections is scheduled to take place on 8 February and Congress is facing one of its toughest electoral challenges.

Among key leaders who have been fielded by Congress in its first list includes Arvinder Lovely from Gandhi Nagar constituency, former Union minister Krishna Tirath from Patel Nagar, senior leader Haroon Yusuf from Balliamaran and . former state minister Ashok Walia from Krishna Nagar.

Poonam Azad, wife of party's campaign committee chief of Delhi Kirti Jha Azad will be contesting from Sangam Vihar and senior leader Rajesh Lilothia is being fielded from Mangolpuri constituency.

Congress is fighting for electoral survival in Delhi as it takes on chief minister Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and an electorally resurgent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which is looking to repeat its Lok Sabha performance where it won all the seven seats.

AAP has already announced candidates on all the 70 assembly constituencies and BJP has announced candidates for 57 seats. Neither the Congress or BJP have announced chief ministerial candidates against Kejriwal.

Counting for Delhi will take place on 11 February.
