India / CRPF Head Constable martyred in Srinagar encounter, 1 militant killed

Thirty-eight-year-old CRPF Head Constable Kuldeep Urwan was martyred in an encounter with militants in Srinagar on Thursday night, a CRPF spokesperson stated. One militant was killed in the encounter and an AK rifle was recovered from his possession. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation as intelligence inputs had suggested the presence of three militants.

Sri Nagar: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) head constable was killed in an encounter that broke out with militants in Malabagh area of Srinagar on Thursday night. The constable was identified as 38-year-old Kuldeep Urwan.

Forces killed one militant in the encounter. He was identified as Zahid Daas of the ISJK outfit. He was was behind the Bijbehara shootout in Anantnag last week, in which a CRPF constable and six-year-old boy were killed. Daas’ body was recovered with an AK rifle.

A CRPF spokesperson said this morning, “01 terrorist neutralised and body recovered along with one AK rifle. Head constable Kuldeep Urwan (38 years) of CRPF got injured, evacuated to Army’s 92 Base hospital for further treatment and later succumbed and attained martyrdom.”
