Modi 3.0 Government: Modi government has taken a big decision regarding Jammu and Kashmir. In view of the assembly elections, the government has increased the power of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Assembly elections are going to be held in Jammu and Kashmir after some time. Earlier, the Modi government has amended Section 55 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019. After this, the Lieutenant Governor will have the right to transfer posting of officers.

With this amendment, the power of the Lieutenant Governor will increase further in matters related to police and public order. The scope of his work will also increase. He will get all those powers in almost all areas, which require prior consent of the Finance Department. The Union Home Ministry has issued a notification and informed about this. Rules giving more power to LG have been added in it.

What has been changed in the rules

The point added in the amended rules under Section 55 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019 is as follows:-

42A- Any proposal for which prior consent of the Finance Department is required under the Act in relation to 'Police', 'Public Order', 'All India Services' and 'Anti-Corruption Bureau' (ACB) will not be accepted or rejected unless it is placed before the Lieutenant Governor through the Chief Secretary.

42B- Any proposal regarding granting or rejecting prosecution or filing an appeal will be placed before the Lieutenant Governor by the Law Department through the Chief Secretary.

Omar Abdullah criticized

The leaders of Jammu and Kashmir have reacted strongly to this decision of the Center. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said, 'Another indication that elections are near in Jammu and Kashmir. This is why a firm commitment to set a timeline for restoring full, undivided statehood to Jammu and Kashmir is a prerequisite for these elections. The people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve better than a powerless, rubber stamp CM who will have to beg the LG to appoint his peon.'

Let us tell you that on August 5, 2019, the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution was revoked. Apart from this, the erstwhile state was divided into two union territories, which include Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Out of these, Ladakh does not have an assembly.
