Waqf Amendment Bill: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed happiness over the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in Parliament and called it a historic moment. He said that this law will promote socio-economic justice, transparency and inclusive development, especially for those who have been marginalized for a long time.The Prime Minister said on the social media platform 'X' that there has been a lack of transparency in the Waqf system for years, due to which Muslim women, poor Muslims and the Pasmanda community have suffered. This bill will remove these shortcomings and ensure better management of Waqf properties.Transparency and accountability will be promotedAfter the bill was passed, the Prime Minister said that this law will strengthen transparency and accountability in the country. He said that this will enable the Waqf properties to be used for the welfare of those in whose favor it was originally.He said that the government is committed to protecting the rights of every citizen and this bill is a concrete step taken in that direction. He thanked all the members who participated in the discussion in Parliament and appreciated the suggestions given on this subject.The bill was passed after a long discussionThe bill was passed after a detailed discussion of thirteen hours in the Rajya Sabha. Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that despite the increase in the number of Waqf properties, their income has been negligible. He assured that this bill will promote better management and transparent administration of Waqf properties.The government clarified that this law will protect the religious and social rights of Muslims and prevent any external interference. This bill will also remove the misconceptions that were being spread regarding the misuse of Waqf properties.Another step towards inclusive IndiaPrime Minister Modi said that the government is committed to maintaining the dignity of every citizen and building an inclusive India. He expressed gratitude to all the parties who cooperated in passing this bill and said that it reflects the importance of extensive debate and dialogue in democracy.After the passage of the bill, it is expected that it will lead to the proper use of Waqf properties and will give real benefits to poor Muslims, especially women and the Pasmanda community.
For decades, the Waqf system was synonymous with lack of transparency and accountability. This especially harmed the interests of Muslim women, poor Muslims, Pasmanda Muslims. The legislations passed by Parliament will boost transparency and also safeguard people’s rights.
