The Uttar Pradesh government has increased the dearness allowance (DA/DR) of government employees and pensioners by 2%. Now the rate has increased from 53% to 55%. 16 lakh employees and 12 lakh pensioners will get the benefit of this. The new salary is expected to be received in May.

DA Hike in UP: A good news has come for lakhs of government employees and pensioners of Uttar Pradesh before Akshaya Tritiya. The state government has announced a 2 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR). After this decision, now the dearness allowance in UP has increased from 53 percent to 55 percent.

This step has been taken at a time when recently the central government also increased the dearness allowance by 2 percent for its employees and pensioners. It is clear from this decision of the UP government that it is ready to give relief to its employees in line with the policies of the central government.

How many people will get the benefit?

About 16 lakh government employees of Uttar Pradesh will benefit from this decision. At the same time, 12 lakh pensioners will also get the benefit of increase in dearness relief. The increased dearness allowance will be applicable from January 2025 and the employees will also be given the arrears of the previous period. The outstanding amount will be paid through the Provident Fund Accounts or National Savings Certificates (NSC) of the employees.

A glimpse of the decision of the central government

This decision of the state government has been taken on the lines of the central government. The Center had recently announced a DA hike of 2 per cent for its employees. This is believed to be the last increase under the 7th Pay Commission, as the 8th Pay Commission is expected to be implemented from January 2026.

What is the expectation ahead?

This increase in dearness allowance will not only directly increase the monthly salary of the employees, but it will also reduce the impact of inflation to some extent. Since DA is calculated on the basis of Consumer Price Index, there is a possibility of further increase in it in future as well.

On an auspicious occasion like Akshaya Tritiya, this increase has brought a relief news for government employees and pensioners. It will not only support financially, but will also strengthen expectations about the upcoming Pay Commission.
