Lockdown / Delhi government will provide help of Rs 5 thousand to workers in lockdown

Delhi government will cater to the living, food and other needs of migrant, daily wage and construction workers. In this regard, the Delhi government has filed an affidavit in the High Court on Tuesday. The government has told the court that apart from this, financial assistance of Rs 5-5 thousand will also be given to the registered construction workers.

Lockdown | During the lockdown imposed in the capital in view of the Corona infection, the Delhi government will cater to the living, food and other needs of migrant, daily wage and construction workers. In this regard, the Delhi government has filed an affidavit in the High Court on Tuesday. The government has told the court that apart from this, financial assistance of Rs 5-5 thousand will also be given to the registered construction workers.

In the affidavit filed before the bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli, the government has taken a bath that it is committed to meet the needs of workers and take necessary steps for their welfare. The government told the bench that necessary steps have been taken to arrange the living, eating, drinking, clothes and medicine etc. of the workers in the lockdown. The government has told the court that a committee headed by Principal Secretary (Home) has been formed which will work for all the needs of the workers. The High Court on Monday sought a response from the government on the migration of migrant laborers after a week-long lockdown was imposed in the capital.

The government while presenting its report has said that in the report, the government has claimed to take appropriate steps for the welfare of workers. For the welfare of the workers, a committee has been formed under the leadership of Principal Secretary (Home) Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, who will be the nodal officer of the state. Along with this, the government has appointed special commissioner of police Rajesh Khurana as the nodal officer on behalf of Delhi Police. The government has said that apart from basic needs like food, drinking, medicine, shelter, clothes, it has also been ensured that the workers engaged in construction work are provided all these facilities at the workplace itself.

The government has said that the number of registered laborers was around 55 thousand in the past and registration has been pushed forward by organizing special camps in one year. At present, there are one lakh 71 thousand 861 registered construction workers. Last year, all the laborers were given financial assistance of Rs 5000 each in lockdown twice. The government has said that this year also from April 20, -2021, financial assistance of Rs. 5000 will be provided again.
