Justice Chandrachud was a judge of the Bombay High Court from 29 March 2000 to 31 October 2013. After that he was appointed as the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court. Justice Chandrachud was named Senior Advocate by the Bombay High Court in June 1998 and was appointed Additional Solicitor General in the same year.
