Chennai: The IPL 2021 match played in Chennai between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday survived a major controversy. In fact, Mumbai Indians bowler Kieron Pollard warned Delhi Capitals batsman Shikhar Dhawan of 'manking'.

What was the whole matter?

Indeed, during the Delhi Capitals batting, Mumbai Indians bowler Kieron Pollard was throwing the 10th over of Delhi's innings. While he was bowling the second ball of the over, he saw Delhi Capitals batsman Shikhar Dhawan coming out of the crease before bowling for a run.

Pollard gave Dhawan a warning

Kieron Pollard stayed after this and gave Dhawan a warning to stay in the crease. Kieron Pollard warns Dhawan to dismiss him through mankding. Its video is also being shared widely on social media.

Controversy also arose in IPL 2019 regarding 'Mankanding'. The controversy surrounding Ravichandran Ashwin, who was the then captain of Kings XI Punjab, over the Rajasthan Royals batsman Jose Butler was in the news.

What is Mankading?

The manner of dismissing it in the name of former Indian spinner Veenu Mankad is within the rules of cricket, but some consider it against the spirit of the game. In 1947, Bill Brown of Australia was dismissed by Venu Mankad in the same manner. If the batsman standing at the other end of the match comes out of the crease before the bowler leaves the ball from his hand, then he is called Mankading to run out. Among the Indians, Kapil Dev dismissed South Africa's Peter Kirsten from Mankading during the 1992–93 series. At the same time, in domestic cricket, spinner Murali Karthik dismissed Bengal's Sandipan Das in a similar Ranji Trophy match.
