India / Drugs worth 100 crores recovered from Chennai airport smugglers caught by customs

The Customs Department has got a big success at Chennai Air Port. Heroin and cocaine weighing 9.590 kg have been seized from a passenger arriving from Addis Ababa by Ethiopian Airlines. Its cost is being said to be around Rs 100 crore. The raid was carried out on the basis of intelligence inputs of Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officer Anil Kumar.

Chennai | The Customs Department has got a big success at Chennai Air Port. Heroin and cocaine weighing 9.590 kg have been seized from a passenger arriving from Addis Ababa by Ethiopian Airlines. Its cost is being said to be around Rs 100 crore. The raid was carried out on the basis of intelligence inputs of Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officer Anil Kumar.

According to a statement issued by Chennai Air Customs, Iqbal B. Urandadi, an Indian passenger who arrived from Addis Ababa by Ethiopian Airlines on August 11, was intercepted by AIU officials. Heroin and cocaine weighing 9.590 kg were seized from them, which is worth about Rs 100 crore.

According to the statement, "On examination of the passenger and his encounter, cocaine and heroin were found. The passenger had hidden it in the check-in baggage and shoes. It was seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985." After this the passenger has been arrested."
