According to data from the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR), mild to moderate intensity earthquakes have occurred several times in recent days in Kutch and surrounding areas. Earlier, an earthquake of 2.5 magnitude was recorded in Saurashtra region on January 3 at 6.10 pm. Its epicenter was three kilometers south-east of Saurashtra.

Kutch: Seismically sensitive area

Kutch district is considered one of the most seismically sensitive areas of the country. This area falls in India's seismic zone 5, which is included in the highest risk areas. People still remember the devastating earthquake that struck Kutch in 2001. Thousands of people lost their lives in that tragedy and there was huge economic loss.

Experts believe that small earthquakes occurring regularly in the Kutch region can reduce the risk of a major earthquake, but this is not completely certain. These mild tremors can reduce the stress within the earth to some extent, but the possibility of a major earthquake cannot be completely ruled out.

Administration's preparation

The Kutch district administration and the state government have intensified disaster management preparations in view of the risk of earthquake. Local residents are being made aware to go to safe places during an earthquake and are being informed about what to do in emergency situations.

Although these earthquake tremors have not caused any major damage, the continuous tremors have increased concern among the local residents. Experts say that instead of panicking during earthquake tremors, one should be cautious and follow the instructions of the administration.
