Weather Update / Heatwave conditions to continue over North-West, Central India, rain forecast for May 16-17

Severe heat wave conditions will prevail in the coming 2 days in many parts of India including Delhi. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heat wave conditions will prevail over the north-west and central parts of the country during the next 2 days and after that a change in weather is possible.

New Delhi: Severe heat wave conditions will prevail in the coming 2 days in many parts of India including Delhi. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heat wave conditions will prevail over the north-west and central parts of the country during the next 2 days and after that a change in weather is possible. The IMD in its weather bulletin said that there will be no significant change in maximum temperatures over Northwest and Central India during the next 2 days and a drop of 2 to 4 degree Celsius during the next 3 days.

Meanwhile, the maximum temperature will gradually increase by 3 to 4 degrees over the southern parts of Maharashtra during the next two days. Severe heat wave conditions are forecast at isolated places over western and eastern parts of Rajasthan on May 15. Similar weather is expected in some parts of Madhya Pradesh till May 17. Heat wave conditions are also likely in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. Under the influence of a fresh Western Disturbance, scattered rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur over Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Sunday.

On May 16 and 17, it will rain in many states of the country.

The IMD said, 'The rain activity with isolated to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall is very likely to occur over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on May 16 and 17 with thunderstorm/lightning/strong winds and hailstorm. On May 16 and 17, scattered light rain and lightning are also predicted over North Punjab and East Uttar Pradesh. There is a possibility of dust storm or thundershower at isolated places over Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on May 16. Dusty wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely at isolated places over North Rajasthan on Sunday.

Southwest Monsoon is rapidly moving towards the coast

Meanwhile, the weather agency said that the Southwest Monsoon is very likely to advance into South Andaman Sea, Nicobar Islands and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours. Due to strong cross-equatorial flow from Bay of Bengal to Andaman Sea in lower troposphere levels, widespread rain/lightning/thundershowers are forecast over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 5 days. During May 15 and 17, wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph over South Andaman Sea is likely.

Rain Forecast in Northeast India and Bihar, Jharkhand

The IMD has also predicted rain in Northeast India and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next five days. Scattered rain/lightning/strong winds may occur at isolated places over Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha till May 17. The Meteorological Department has forecast widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated thunderstorm/lightning/strong winds over Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry-Karaikal, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep till May 16. Meanwhile, scattered rain or lightning is very likely at isolated places over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, North Interior Karnataka and Rayalaseema till May 17.
