Raid / Income tax action on the premises of former NSE MD Chitra, used to take decisions at the behest of 'Unknown Yogi'

The Income Tax Department on Thursday raided the premises of former National Stock Exchange (NSE) MD and CEO Chitra Ramakrishna in Mumbai. This action was taken in connection with the investigation of tax evasion by him and other associates. Chitra Ramakrishna recently came into the limelight with a SEBI order.

The Income Tax Department on Thursday raided the premises of former National Stock Exchange (NSE) MD and CEO Chitra Ramakrishna in Mumbai. This action was taken in connection with the investigation of tax evasion by him and other associates. Chitra Ramakrishna recently came into the limelight with a SEBI order. The order said that Chitra had appointed Anand Subramaniam as an advisor to the group operating officer and managing director at the behest of an 'unknown yogi' living in the Himalayas.

Income Tax officials said the raids against Ramakrishna and others were carried out in the wake of allegations of tax evasion and financial rigging. Chitra was made the MD and CEO of NSE in April 2013. She held this position till December 2016. According to the information, raids have also been conducted at the place of Group Operating Officer Anand Subramaniam.

The SEBI order also said that Ramakrishna also shared certain internal confidential information with 'Yogi' including NSE's financial and business plans, dividend outlook and financial results. Due to this, illegal economic benefits were given to them. SEBI had also imposed a fine of Rs 3 crore on Ramakrishna. This action was taken in the case of Anand Subramaniam's appointment. Consulted 'Yogi' on the performance appraisal of employees of the Exchange.

Appointment of Anand Subramaniam at the behest of Yogi

Recently, SEBI made a shocking disclosure about the National Stock Exchange. The SEBI report said that the appointment of Anand Subramaniam to the NSE was done at the behest of a 'yogi'. Whereas, Subramaniam had no experience in capital markets. Not only this, his annual salary and allowances package of 15 lakhs was increased to over 4 crores.

According to a SEBI official, Chitra Ramakrishna, former MD and CEO of NSE, took the decisions related to NSE at the behest of a yogi, who was never even seen. Chitra Ramakrishna was influenced by a yogi living in the Himalayas. NSE is the largest stock exchange in the country. In this 49 crore transactions are done daily. The one day turnover of NSE is 64 thousand crores.
