Tensions continue in Syria after the civil war. The Indian Embassy has ensured the safety of all Indian citizens. Out of 90 Indians, 14 work in United Nations organizations. The Indian government has strictly advised to avoid traveling to Syria. The embassy is active to help.

Syria Crisis: Amid the long-running civil war and recent turmoil in Syria, the Indian Embassy has informed that all Indian citizens present in Syria are safe. This statement comes when Islamic rebels have claimed to have ousted President Bashar al-Assad from power. According to government sources, the Indian Embassy in Damascus is still fully active and is ready to help Indian citizens.

Embassy issued security advisory

To ensure the safety of Indian citizens living in Syria, the embassy has issued an emergency helpline number and email ID. The embassy said, "All Indian citizens present in Syria are advised to keep their activities to a minimum and exercise extreme caution." Along with this, citizens who can leave the country have been advised to use available commercial flights.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has also issued an advisory on travel to Syria, urging citizens to avoid traveling to this troubled country until further notice. The ministry said, "In view of the current situation in Syria, Indian citizens are requested not to travel there at this time."

Number of Indian citizens and their status

According to official figures, around 90 Indian citizens are present in Syria. Of these, 14 are employed in various UN organisations. The Indian Embassy in Damascus is in touch with all these citizens and is providing them necessary help.

Deteriorating situation in Syria

The situation in Syria is deteriorating rapidly. The rebels have claimed that they have established control over several key areas including Damascus. The armed opposition has also announced that President Bashar al-Assad has fled the country. The statement given by the rebels said, "Bashar al-Assad's rule is now over."
