BrahMos Missile: India's dominance in defense exports is now being heard in the world. Let us tell you that India has made a 30-fold jump in defense exports in the last 10 years, increasing from a mere Rs 686 crore in FY 2013-14 to a record Rs 21,083 crore in FY 2023-24. This reflects the acceptance of Indian defense products and technologies in the world. With exports to more than 85 countries in Southeast Asia, Middle East, Africa and Latin America, India's defense industry has shown its capability of design and development to the world, a senior official said. Around 100 companies in the country are currently exporting defense products.

Boost from Make in India

To boost defense exports, the government has taken several policy initiatives like "Make in India" and has made several economic reforms in the last 10 years. He said that export processes have been simplified and made industry-friendly with end-to-end online export authorization. Which has made it easier to do business. Apart from this, the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative has helped the country by encouraging indigenous design, development and manufacturing of defense equipment in the country. Which has reduced dependence on imports in the long run.

These companies won

The emergence of the private sector as a supplier of defense equipment has been a significant development, with companies like Larsen & Toubro, Tata Advanced Systems and Bharat Forge emerging as major defense equipment manufacturing companies. About 79.2% of the total value of production in 2023-24 has been contributed by DPSUs / other PSUs and 20.8% by the private sector. Official data shows that both DPSUs / PSUs and the private sector have recorded a steady increase in defense production.

Sale of these weapons in the world

India's export of defense products includes missiles, radars, naval systems, helicopters and surveillance equipment. India has made substantial progress in indigenous production of advanced naval systems, which also cater to the export market. Advanced platforms such as the INS Vikrant aircraft carrier highlight our achievement in this area.
