Myanmar Earthquake: Amid the devastation caused by the recent severe earthquake in Myanmar, India has taken the initiative to provide immediate humanitarian assistance. On Saturday, the first batch of emergency aid sent by India reached Yangon. This assistance also includes a special Indian team to assist in relief and rescue operations, which will search for victims in the affected areas and provide medical assistance.Indian relief effortsThe first relief consignment sent by India to Myanmar included personal care items, food items, sleeping bags, solar lamps and essential kitchen utensils. Indian Ambassador Abhay Thakur sent this relief material to Myanmar on 29 March. The Indian Embassy made it clear in its statement that India will keep a constant watch on this natural disaster and additional assistance will also be sent as needed.Myanmar National Airlines (MNA) has announced that it will help deliver relief materials and essential medicines to the needy free of cost. Apart from this, relief efforts are being intensified in Myanmar in collaboration with other international organizations.15.3 tonnes of relief material left from IndiaThe Indian government sent 15.3 tonnes of relief material through a special aircraft of the Indian Air Force to help the earthquake victims. At the same time, 37 Chinese relief workers also reached Myanmar with 5041 kg of relief material on behalf of China Eastern Airlines. MNA has provided ground services free of cost at Yangon International Airport to conduct relief operations smoothly.118-member Indian rescue teamThe Indian team consists of a total of 118 members, led by Lieutenant Colonel Jagneet Gill. The team is part of the specially trained "Shatrujit Brigade Medical Responders", which has arrived in Myanmar with emergency medical equipment and other essential supplies.The Indian Army plans to set up a 60-bed medical treatment center to treat those injured in the disaster. The center will provide support to local health services, so that emergency medical services can be operated smoothly.China's contributionThe earthquake in Myanmar on March 28 has killed more than 1000 people and injured thousands so far. In view of this dire situation, China has also accelerated relief efforts. The Yunnan Provincial Rescue and Medical Team arrived at Yangon International Airport on March 29.This Chinese team consists of 37 members, who have launched relief operations with 112 sets of emergency relief equipment, including state-of-the-art life detectors, earthquake early warning systems, portable satellites and drones.China provided assistance of 100 million yuanAt the request of the Myanmar government, China has announced to provide 100 million yuan (about US$14.5 million) as emergency humanitarian assistance. Under this, essential items such as tents, blankets, medical kits, food items and drinking water will be supplied. The first relief team will arrive in Myanmar on March 31, and further assistance will be continued in accordance with the needs of Myanmar.Relief work accelerated with international cooperationMany countries and international organizations, including India and China, are playing an active role in dealing with the crisis arising after the earthquake in Myanmar. Efforts are being made to make the relief operation effective with the cooperation of officials, local administration and religious organizations. The relief team and medical assistance sent by India will speed up the rehabilitation work in the affected areas.
