India-Maldives News: Relations between India and Maldives have not been good in recent times. But, now Maldives has said that about 68 percent of the work on the Hanimadhoo International Airport being built with Indian assistance has been completed. India has said that this project will have a transformative effect on the entire northern region of the island country. The Ministry of Infrastructure has announced that the construction of Hanimadhoo International Airport is 67.5 percent complete, which is being funded by the Government of India with a loan assistance of 80 crore MVR (Maldives currency). The work of the project is progressing rapidly.

When will the project be completed

News portal TruthMV.com said on Thursday, "The airport expansion handed over to India's GMC in September includes a 2.7 km runway, a terminal with a capacity of 13 lakh passengers and a jet fuel storage facility. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, 97 percent of the 2,400-meter long runway and apron (place for parking aircraft) has been completed, and the completed portion is already in use. The entire project is expected to be completed by November.

Hanimadhoo is about 290 KM north of Male

Hanimadhoo is located about 290 km north of Male, the capital of the island group. The Indian High Commissioner posted on 'X' after visiting on Wednesday, saying, "The Hanimadhoo International Airport, built under Indian loan assistance, will have a transformative effect on the northern region of Maldives. The significant progress observed during the visit of the project site by the Ambassador along with the Minister of Infrastructure and Minister of Civil Aviation was appreciated."
