Jay Shah: The command of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the apex body of cricket, is now in the hands of an Indian. Jay Shah has been elected unopposed as the next chairman of the ICC. Jay Shah, who has been the BCCI secretary since October 2019 and the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) since January 2021, will now take over the prestigious post of ICC from 1 December 2024. By reaching this position at the age of 35, he will become the youngest chairman of the ICC.Recently, the current chairman Greg Barclay refused to stand for a third term, making Shah's selection easier. Jay Shah expressed his commitment to increase the global reach and popularity of cricket upon taking charge. He says that the ICC is at a critical juncture, where it is important to maintain a balance between the three formats and adopt new technologies. His goal is to make cricket more popular than ever.Jay Shah will now have to leave the post of BCCI secretary, which he held for the last 5 years. He is also the chairman of the ICC's Finance and Business Affairs Sub-Committee. Jay Shah is the 5th Indian to become ICC Chairman, the first being Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar.
