Coronavirus / Kerala announces complete lockdown on July 31 & Aug 1 amid rising COVID cases

Kerala government has announced a complete lockdown on July 31 and August 1 as the state reported 50% of new COVID-19 cases in the country on Wednesday. The order said existing categorisation of Local Self-Government Institutions and restrictions/relaxations in respective categories will continue. Photo studios will be allowed to open on permitted days in view of the NEET examination requirements.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala government on Monday announced complete lockdown on July 31 and August 1 in view of the rising Covid-19 cases in the state.

"Government is sending a six-member team to Kerala headed by director of National Centre for Disease Control," said Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

Mandaviya added that the team will aid the state’s ongoing efforts in Covid management as a large number of Covid cases are still being reported in Kerala.

The state on Wednesday reported 22,056 new Covid cases and 131 deaths.
