Gandhinagar News: A major accident occurred during Ganpati immersion on Friday near Vasna Sogathi village in Dehgam tehsil of Gujarat's capital Gandhinagar. 10 youths drowned after immersion in the Meshvo river, of which 8 have died and the search for the remaining two is on. This incident has turned the joy of Ganpati festival into mourning, and this is the fourth drowning incident in Gujarat in recent days during Ganpati immersion.

Information about the spot and incident

Some youths who were part of the crowd that had reached the banks of the Meshvo river passing through Vasna Sogathi village for Ganpati immersion started bathing in the check dam located near the river. Suddenly, ten youths started drowning. Other youths bathing with them raised an alarm, due to which people from the vicinity reached the spot and tried to help immediately.

Rescue operation and identification of the dead

After receiving information about the incident, the fire brigade of Dehgam Municipality and local divers immediately reached the spot. During the rescue operation that lasted for about two hours, divers pulled out the bodies of eight youths from the river. These bodies were sent to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared all of them dead. At present, the search for the other two youths is on and the team of divers is engaged in efforts to find them.

Police and administration response

As soon as the information about the incident was received, senior police and administration officials from Gandhinagar reached the spot and took stock of the rescue operation. A huge crowd of villagers has gathered at the spot and a wave of mourning has spread in the village. Amidst the happiness of Ganpati festival, this tragic incident has put the entire village in deep mourning.

This is the fourth incident of drowning during Ganpati immersion in Gujarat recently. In the last six days, four youths have died in Patan, two in Nadiad and one in Junagadh.
