Bijapur IED Blast / Major attack by Naxalites in Bijapur, 9 soldiers martyred in IED blast, video surfaced

Bijapur IED Blast: Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, which has been witness to Naxal violence for a long time, once again fell victim to this brutality on Monday. The Naxalites blew up a vehicle of the security forces by detonating a landmine. Eight soldiers of Dantewada District Reserve Guard (DRG) and a driver were martyred in this attack. The explosion was so powerful that the bodies of the soldiers were blown into pieces.

Details of the incident

The incident took place near Ambeli village in Kutru police station area, where the Naxalites used about 100 kg of explosives. The attack took place when a joint team of security forces was returning from an operation. It was told that at around 2:15 pm, the Naxalites targeted the vehicle of the security forces by blasting an IED.

Bastar IG Sundarraj P said that this attack is the biggest attack on the security forces by the Naxalites in the last two years. Earlier in April 2023, a similar attack took place in Dantewada district, in which 10 policemen and a driver were killed.

New face of Naxalism

Such attacks by Naxalites show that their strategy is becoming more deadly now. This not only increases the challenge of the security forces, but also shows that the Naxalite organizations are carrying out such attacks out of desperation for fear of losing their strength.

Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai termed this attack as a cowardly act and expressed condolences to the families of the martyred soldiers. He said that this sacrifice will not go in vain and the government is committed to eradicate Naxalism. Similarly, Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Raman Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw also expressed grief over the incident and reiterated the government's determination.

Security forces have to be vigilant at every step in Naxal-affected areas. This attack shows that Naxalites are still highly organized and violent. However, the government and security forces have made it clear that the fight against Naxalism will be intensified.
