India-Maldives News: Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu's attitude has now cooled down, and now he is planning to visit New Delhi to improve relations with India. According to ANI sources, Muizzu may visit Delhi from October 7, although it has not been officially confirmed yet.

Turmoil of India-Maldives relations

Tensions between India and Maldives had increased after President Muizzu came to power. His negativity towards India in the early days of his government had soured relations between the two countries. Recently, Maldives Foreign Minister Musa Zameer claimed that Muizzu has cleared his misunderstandings with India. He also said that now steps are being taken towards improving relations between the two countries.

Zameer told that President Muizzu had some misunderstandings towards India, which have now ended. He said that since the withdrawal of Indian troops from Maldives, the misunderstandings between the two countries have been resolved. Earlier, Muizzu had launched a campaign to withdraw Indian troops, which further increased tension in bilateral relations. But now, after dialogue and consensus between the two sides, technical personnel have been deployed in place of Indian soldiers.

Choice of Muizzu's first foreign trip

President Muizzu did not visit New Delhi unlike his predecessors after assuming office. He made his first foreign trip to Turkey and then went to China in January. However, he attended the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Modi on June 9.

Objectionable comments against PM Modi

As soon as Muizzu came to power, three of his deputy ministers made objectionable comments on social media against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which further affected the relations between the two countries. On this, the Foreign Ministry of Maldives distanced itself from these comments, providing clarity. Later, those three ministers were suspended.

Conclusion

Mohamed Muizzu's possible visit to Delhi could be a new direction for improving relations between India and Maldives. If Muizzu indeed comes to New Delhi on October 7, it will indicate that both countries are looking for a positive way to strengthen their mutual relations. This visit could be important not only for bilateral relations but also promote regional stability and cooperation.
