India signed a $ 400 million currency swap agreement on Monday with the aim of building better relations with Maldives. Along with this, India agreed to increase cooperation for the construction of ports, road networks, schools and housing projects. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu also issued RuPay card in Maldives. Apart from this, the new runway at Hanimadhoo International Airport was inaugurated and agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu has come to India on a 4-day visit

Let us tell you that last year the relations between the two countries had soured. Muizzu, who came on a four-day state visit, met Prime Minister Modi at Hyderabad House. Both the countries also agreed on 'a vision for a comprehensive economic and maritime security partnership'. This is a document that covers different aspects of cooperation. After the talks, India also handed over 700 social housing units to Maldives. It has been constructed under the buyer credit facility of Exim Bank (Export-Import Bank of India). Prime Minister Modi said, "Some time ago we introduced RuPay card in Maldives. In the coming time, we will work towards connecting India and Maldives with UPI."
