Gold Smuggling: Kannada film industry actress Ranya Rao has landed in a major controversy. She was arrested at Bengaluru Airport while returning from Dubai on charges of gold smuggling. Investigating agencies recovered 14 kilograms of illegal gold from her possession. This incident has had a significant impact not only on her career but also on her family's reputation.

Ranya is the Stepdaughter of DGP K. Ramachandra Rao

Ranya Rao is the stepdaughter of Karnataka cadre senior IPS officer DGP K. Ramachandra Rao. When the media sought a response from her father following her arrest, he clearly stated that he, too, learned about the case through the media.

DGP K. Ramachandra Rao, who currently heads the Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation, revealed that he had not been in contact with his daughter. He stated,

"When I saw this news, I was stunned. I had no information about this. Like any father, this is shocking and distressing news for me."

He also mentioned that Ranya had been living separately after her marriage and that he had no knowledge of her business affairs.

No One is Above the Law: DGP K. Ramachandra Rao

Reacting to Ranya’s arrest, DGP Ramachandra Rao stated,

"Whatever happens, the law will take its course. I have maintained an unblemished career, and I will not do anything wrong in this matter."

He also hinted that there might have been some issues in Ranya’s personal life, which could have led her to commit such a crime.

Frequent Travel to Dubai Led to Surveillance

Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) were already suspicious of Ranya’s activities. In the past few days, she had traveled to Dubai 10 times, raising concerns that she might be involved in illegal activities.

When she recently returned from Dubai, she attempted to evade customs officials, but after a thorough inspection, 14 kilograms of illegal gold was recovered from her. She was subsequently sent to 14 days of judicial custody.

Ranya’s Declining Film Career and Reputation

Ranya Rao has acted in Kannada films like "Manikya" and "Pataki". However, she did not achieve much success in films and has not been seen in any major projects in the past few years.

Now, after her arrest, her career is considered to be almost over.

Was Ranya Acting Alone or Part of a Larger Network?

Investigating agencies suspect that Ranya was not acting alone in this smuggling case but was part of a larger smuggling network. After her arrest, officials also raided her residence and seized important evidence.
