Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress and Pradyot Kishore Debbarma's Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) are actively negotiating a coalition in Tripura, where parliamentary elections are scheduled for next month. 2023, Both parties sought to fill the void created by the dwindling left-wing Congress and growing opposition to power in the BJP state.

Mamata Banerjee's grandson and Trinamool National Secretary Abhishek Banerjee were in Tripura last week, while Debbarma, a royal descendant, met the Chief of West Bengal in Kolkata in early July to discuss the equation emerging politics in its state.

Debbarma, also known as Pradyot Manikya, said he will do everything he can to ensure "constitutional rights" for tribal communities in his state.

Debbarma, who identifies as "indigenous Tripuri", added that this would make more sense than "just the self-governing council".

“I want a text that guarantees the guarantees of the Constitution to the people of my tribal community. Any political party that accepts and commits to providing me with a written agreement will receive my support, ”he said. "I met Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek in Kolkata and discussed these things for a long time."

The head of TIPRA says Mamata understands the issues he is raising.

“I have great respect for Mamata Didi when she split from Congress, as I did, and single-handedly overthrew the left,” he said. “She was in Congress with my mother and then my father. I believe she has a strong case this time in Tripura. Didi understood the problem I presented. I also want her to bring this up in Congress.

Hinting at a likely alliance with the Trinamool Congress, another senior member of TIPRA said: “If we work together, we can win 58 out of 60 seats. There is serious resentment towards the BJP on the ground. They will be finished.
