Trinamool Congress: After the defeat in Haryana and Maharashtra elections, the Congress party is once again targeting EVMs. Congress alleges that the election results are being affected due to EVMs. However, this time Congress does not seem to be getting the support of opposition parties on its allegations. TMC and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have criticized Congress while supporting EVMs.

TMC's support on EVMs

Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee rejected the questions raised against EVMs and said that if anyone has any concrete evidence, then it should be presented before the Election Commission. Abhishek said, "If important stages like EVM randomization, mock poll and counting are properly investigated, then there is no substance in these allegations."

It is clear from Abhishek Banerjee's statement that TMC, which is in power in West Bengal, does not agree with the Congress's stand on EVMs.

Congress's counterattack

Congress MP Mallu Ravi hit back at Abhishek Banerjee's statement and called it "ridiculous". He said,

"If there was any evidence of EVM tampering, Congress would have proved it by now. This is not possible, so we are constantly raising this issue. TMC's stance is because they are in power."

He further said that there is no difference of opinion in the All India Alliance regarding the Common Minimum Program and every party has the right to express its opinion.

Omar Abdullah's advice to Congress

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah also advised Congress to avoid blaming EVMs. He said,

"Congress should accept the election results. It is not right to trust EVMs when you win and blame it when you lose."

He targeted Congress by repeating BJP's statement that the issue of EVMs is raised only at the time of defeat.

Lack of opposition support for Congress

This time Congress seems to be alone on the issue of questioning EVMs. While major opposition leaders like TMC and Omar Abdullah have supported EVMs, other parties have maintained silence on the controversy.

Congress's stand on EVMs

Congress has been questioning the transparency of EVMs for a long time. The party says that EVM tampering affects election results and poses a threat to democracy. However, till now Congress has not been able to present any concrete evidence in support of its claims.

What does BJP say?

BJP has been consistently in support of EVMs. The party argues that when Congress or other opposition parties win elections, they do not raise any questions on EVMs, but as soon as they lose, they start blaming EVMs.

Conclusion

This time Congress is facing internal differences within the opposition on the EVM controversy. Leaders like TMC and Omar Abdullah are criticizing Congress and expressing confidence in the credibility of EVMs. In such a situation, it has become challenging for the Congress to make EVM a big issue and maintain opposition unity.
