Violence in Manipur before elections / NPP candidates father shot complaint filed against BJP CM said- investigation is going on in the matter

Ahead of the Manipur Assembly Election 2022, the round of accusations has started in the state. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National People's Party on Saturday blamed each other for the violence in the state. Serious violence broke out in Andro Constituency of East Imphal district on Friday evening, in which at least seven people were injured and around 6 houses and 5 cars were seriously damaged.

Ahead of the Manipur Assembly Election 2022, the round of accusations has started in the state. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National People's Party (NPP) on Saturday blamed each other for the violence in the state. Serious violence broke out in Andro Constituency of East Imphal district on Friday evening, in which at least seven people were injured and around 6 houses and 5 cars were seriously damaged.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said on Saturday that a probe has been initiated into the pre-poll violence in Andro assembly constituency. However, there is no involvement of BJP in this violence. The Chief Minister alleged that the opposition candidates were misusing the security provided for their safety.

Seven people hospitalized

At least seven people were hospitalized after violence broke out in Manipur's Andro constituency on Friday night. Among the injured were NPP candidate Sanjay Singh's father L. Shyamjai and BJP candidate T Shyamkumar. The family members of BJP's Andro Mandal president in-charge Mehboob Babu were also injured during the clash. All of them have been admitted to hospitals in Imphal.

Complaint filed against BJP too

The NPP (National People's Party) has also filed a complaint against the BJP, claiming that the NPP candidate's father was shot dead outside his house in the constituency. Meanwhile, NPP National President Conrad Sangma met the Chief Electoral Officer on Saturday.

Incidents of violence came to light from 10 electoral areas

Manipur DGP P Dongel, in a statement to India Today, said political parties "involved in violence" ahead of the elections. If the candidates and their supporters had followed the rules of the Election Commission and stopped campaigning after 9 pm, such an incident could have been avoided.” Manipur Joint Chief Electoral Officer S Daulat Khan said that now Till date incidents of violence have been reported from 10 constituencies and precautionary action is being taken. The Election Commission has also called for the deployment of more CAPFs in the state. 300 companies are expected to be deployed in the coming days.
