A truck driver has been fined ₹1,000 for driving the vehicle without wearing a helmet in Odisha's Ganjam district. According to reports, the matter came to light when the truck driver Pramod Kumar Swain went to the RTO to renew the permit of his truck. He was handed a challan issued in December last year for 'driving without helmet'.

Ganjam: Atruck driver was fined Rs 1,000 for driving the vehicle without wearing a helmet in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Wednesday.

The matter came to the fore when Pramod Kumar Swain visited the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to renew the permit to drive the truck.

It was here when Swain got to know about a challan pertaining to ‘driving without a helmet’ that was pending against the registered number of the truck.

The permit was granted only after Swaim paid the fine.Live TV

“I have been driving the truck for the past three years. It is engaged in water supply. I went to the RTO for renewal as my permit had expired. I came to know about the pending fine then, which was driving my truck without wearing a helmet,’ Swaim said.

“They are unnecessarily harassing and collecting money from people. The government should take steps to prevent such errors," he added.
