Delhi Election: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday gave a big gift of the New Year to the people of Delhi. He handed over the keys of newly constructed flats to thousands of slum dwellers under the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project at Swabhiman Apartment in Ashok Vihar, Delhi. On this occasion, PM Modi said that this project will not only bring change in the lives of slum dwellers but will also lead them towards a better future.1675 newly constructed flats inauguratedA total of 1675 flats were inaugurated for the residents of slum settlements in Ashok Vihar, Delhi. These flats have been built under the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Scheme of Delhi Development Authority (DDA). The Prime Minister handed over the keys of these flats to the eligible beneficiaries. He said that this initiative is part of the government's commitment, which emphasizes on giving every person an opportunity to live a respectable life.Beneficiaries' nominal contribution on flats costing Rs 25 lakhThe construction cost of each flat under this project is around Rs 25 lakh. However, eligible beneficiaries will only have to pay less than 7 per cent of the total amount. This includes a nominal contribution of Rs 1.42 lakh and Rs 30,000 for five years of maintenance. The scheme is proving to be a boon for slum dwellers who were hoping for better housing for a long time.Rejuvenation of Naoroji Nagar World Trade CentreThe Prime Minister also inaugurated the World Trade Centre (WTC) at Naoroji Nagar. Under this project, more than 600 old quarters have been converted into state-of-the-art commercial towers. This transformation has made available about 34 lakh square feet of premium commercial space.The project also incorporates green building practices. Features like zero-discharge concept, solar power generation, and rainwater harvesting system make this project even more special.Inauguration of over 2500 residential units in Sarojini NagarThe Prime Minister also inaugurated the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Type-II Quarters in Sarojini Nagar. Under this project, over 2500 residential units have been built in 28 towers. These towers have been provided with modern amenities, so that the residents can get a better standard of living.Inauguration of new CBSE office in DwarkaThe Prime Minister inaugurated a new office complex of CBSE in Dwarka, Delhi. The building has cost around Rs 300 crore. It has facilities like state-of-the-art office space, auditorium, data center, and water management system. The building has been built in an eco-friendly manner and has been given a platinum rating by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).Launch of three new projects of Delhi UniversityThe Prime Minister also inaugurated three new projects at Delhi University costing over Rs 600 crore. These include a new academic block in Surajmal Vihar in East Delhi, another academic block in the West Campus of Dwarka, and a new building of Veer Savarkar College in Roshanpura, Najafgarh. Through these projects, the education sector in Delhi is also being strengthened.Objective of PM Modi's development plansPrime Minister Modi said that the aim of these projects is to provide a better standard of living to every citizen of the country. Redevelopment of slums will not only provide better housing to the people but this step will also bring a positive change in the society. He stressed that it is the priority of the government that every citizen gets basic facilities and they can live a respectable life.
