He spoke to Myanmar's General Min Aung Hlaing and expressed condolences and assured all possible assistance. Prime Minister Modi shared his feelings on the social media platform X and expressed deep condolences to the citizens of Myanmar.

Prime Minister Modi said that India, as a close friend and neighbor of Myanmar, stands with it in this difficult time. He informed that India has rapidly sent disaster relief material, humanitarian assistance, search and rescue teams to the affected areas.

Relief efforts from India

India has sent 15 tonnes of relief material to Myanmar as immediate relief. This material was sent through C-130J aircraft from the Indian Air Force's Hindon station. This relief material includes essential items like tents, sleeping bags, blankets, ready-to-eat food, water purification equipment, hygiene kits, solar lamps, generator sets, paracetamol, antibiotics, syringes, gloves and bandages.

Earthquake causes massive destruction

The magnitude of this powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar and its neighboring country Thailand on Friday was measured at 7.7. The epicenter of the earthquake was near Mandalay, Myanmar's second largest city. More than 1000 people died and more than 1700 people were injured in Myanmar in this natural disaster. Many buildings, bridges and dams collapsed due to the earthquake.

India's support and future plans

The Indian government has promised to provide all possible assistance to Myanmar and has instructed various departments to expedite relief work. This support reflects the strong India-Myanmar relations and shows that India stands with its neighbors in difficult situations.
