New Delhi: Compensation will be given for the death due to corona virus in the country. The Supreme Court today said that it is the statutory duty of the government to give compensation to the people in disaster. The top court asked the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to fix the compensation amount and inform the states within six weeks. After this decision of the top court, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the SC has given an opportunity to the Modi government to rectify the mistake. At least now the government should provide relief to the victims by fixing the right amount of compensation. This is an important step in the right direction.Let us inform that the Congress is continuously raising the demand for compensation to the families of those who lost their lives from Corona. On June 28 too, Rahul Gandhi had tweeted saying, "A small portion of petrol-diesel tax collection can be compensated to the families of Kovid victims - this is their need, right. The Modi government should not back down from this opportunity of public assistance in disaster. What is the whole matter? The petition was filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of two lawyers Gaurav Kumar Bansal and Ripak Kansal. Both said that Section 12 of the National Disaster Management Act provides for government compensation for the people who die in the disaster. Last year, the Center had asked all the states to pay Rs 4 lakh as compensation to those who died of corona. This year it has not been done. The central government said that it is very difficult financially to pay 4-4 lakh rupees for about 4 lakh deaths due to corona. If the states are forced to do this, then other essential functions of disaster management will be affected.
