Coronavirus / Section 144 imposed in Nagpur, Nashik as total cases reach 39 in Maharashtra

Mumbai: As the number of coronavirus cases rises in Maharashtra, the state government implemented Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in Nagpur and Nashik. The aim is to prevent the spread of deadly virus which killed nearly 7,000 people worldwide.

Amid the coronavirus outbreak, the Nagpur police imposed prohibitory orders in the city to avoid large gathering of people. "The order shall remain in force till March 31," Ravindra Kadam, Joint Commissioner of Police, Nagpur told PTI.

Starting from today, all the shops will remain closed in Nagpur for the next three days. Prohibitory orders were also implemented in Nashik today, PTI reported. Two more persons with coronavirus symptoms were admitted to the district civil hospital in Nashik today.

Federation Of Pune Trade Association (FTAP) on Tuesday decided to close the markets in the city for next three days.

As of Tuesday, Maharashtra reported a total of 39 COVID-19 cases, highest in the country after Kerala. At present, there are 125 cases of coronavirus in the country.

In the wake of coronavirus scare, Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray issued an advisory directing all schools, colleges, cinema halls and malls to remain shut till 31 March.

The Maharashtra government announced a ₹45 crore to districts in the wake of coronavirus pandemic. The chief minister Uddhav Thackeray has allocated ₹15 crore to the Konkan region, ₹10 crore to Pune and ₹5 crore each to Amravati, Nagpur, Aurangabad and Nashik.

The state has so far screened 1,89,888 fliers on 1,663 flights who have arrived through Mumbai, Nagpur and Pune airports since 18 January. Nearly 800 individuals have been tested within the state so far, of which 717 have returned negative results.
