The Serum Institute of India (SII) has communicated to the Union authorities it's going to deliver round 20 crore doses in September of the vaccine towards the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) advanced through Oxford University-Astrazeneca, which the Pune-based company is producing as Covishield in India. This is double the range of doses which the SII in advance informed the Centre might be brought that month.

“We have in addition enhanced the manufacturing capability and might be capable of delivering about 20 crore doses of Covishield to the authorities and personal hospitals,” Prakash Kumar Singh, SII’s director, authorities and regulatory affairs, wrote to the Union ministry of health and family welfare (MoHFW), consistent with officials.

In a manufacturing plan submitted to the principal authorities in May, the SII put at 10 crores each, its manufacturing capability for Covishield, for each August and September. This month, the world’s biggest vaccine producer has provided 12 crore doses of the vaccine to the Centre and private hospitals.

Till now, 6,03,846,475 vaccines doses have been administered across the country, including 8,040,407 in the last 24 hours, according to the Union health ministry’s dashboard.
