Karnataka News: The repeal of the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill, 2024 in the Karnataka Legislative Council is being considered a major defeat for the Siddaramaiah government. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday blamed the opposition, especially the BJP, for not passing the bill imposing tax on Hindu temples in the Legislative Council. The Chief Minister accused BJP of spreading 'false information' among the people about the bill. Let us tell you that this bill passed in the Assembly earlier this week could not be passed in the Legislative Council on Friday.

Siddaramaiah got furious at the opposition

Let us tell you that the opposition has majority in the Karnataka Legislative Council. Siddaramaiah lashed out at the opposition over the bill not being passed, saying, 'There was nothing in it, they (BJP-led opposition) did it deliberately. They are spreading misinformation. There was a provision in this bill to take a part of the money from prosperous Hindu temples and give it to those Hindu temples which receive less donations or donations or no donations at all. It is not used for any other religious places.

The CM said, 'If we bring a bill for this purpose, the opposition drops it in the Council because they have the majority there.' On the question of BJP leaders accusing the Congress government of planning to loot the money of Hindus, Siddaramaiah said, 'They were looting, that is why the public ousted them from power in the last assembly elections.' Let us tell you that in the bill, there was a proposal to collect 5 percent tax from those temples whose income is between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 1 crore, whereas there was a provision to collect 10 percent tax from the temples whose income is more than Rs 1 crore.
