India-Maldives News: Relations between India and its neighboring country Maldives have turned sour. Last week, there is tension between the two countries after the leaders of Maldives made several objectionable comments regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Lakshadweep. However, due to this tension, the Maldives government is suffering huge losses financially, not only this, people in their own country have also turned against the government. Amidst the continuous pressure, the President of Maldives remains arrogant and while carrying forward the war of words against India, said that he will not allow any country to exploit him.

Amidst the ongoing controversy, President Mohammad Muizzu, who returned home from his 5-day official visit to China, made a verbal attack on India and said, “Our country is a small country, but we will not allow other countries to exploit it.” Speaking at Vellana International Airport, President Muizzu said that Maldives is not located in the backyard of any particular country.

'Indian Ocean is no one's property'

President Muizzu said, “We are not a country located in the backyard of any particular country. We are an independent and sovereign country. Therefore, the basis of territorial integrity is that China respects us very much.” He also said that the Indian Ocean is not the property of any particular country, Maldives also has a large part in this ocean.

He also said, “We are a country with a large exclusive economic zone of about 9 lakh square kilometers, regardless of the size of the islands in this sea. Maldives is one of the largest shareholders of the Indian Ocean. “It is not the property of any particular country.”

‘We will end our dependence on India’

Without directly naming India, the President said in his statement, “During the tenure of the previous government, you could get up from one seat and sit on another seat with the permission of some people. Now we will stand on our own feet without trusting anyone.” Referring to China, he said that China does not influence our internal affairs at all. Whereas till recently, during the previous government, we saw that with the permission of some people, we could get up from one seat and sit on another seat.

Regarding India's dependence on Maldives, the President said that he will end Maldives' dependence on India in various fields. We will stop going to India for medicines and bringing medicines from there. He also said, “We hope to change the way medicines are imported from Europe and the United States by eliminating the import of low-quality medicines.”

President Muizzu ended his speech in English with another verbal attack on India. “No one has the right to insult Maldives, no matter how small our country is,” he said.
