UGC-NET 2024: Amid the ongoing uproar over NEET across the country, the UGC-NET exam has been canceled. Along with cancelling the exam, the Ministry of Education has also handed over its investigation to the CBI. After this, the candidates demanding the cancellation of NEET have also got a hope. The question is being raised that when UGC NET can be canceled, then why can't the NEET exam be conducted again. The argument is also being given that when NEET was canceled and re-conducted in 2015, then why is it not being done this time when there is a mess.

UGC NET conducted by the National Test Agency has been canceled due to irregularities. This exam was held on June 18, for which 11 lakh students had registered. Now this exam will be conducted again. A new date has not been announced for this yet. After the cancellation of the NET exam, questions are being raised once again on the integrity of NTA. Earlier, there was a ruckus going on in the country regarding NEET, this exam was also conducted by NTA. The case of which is pending in the court.

The Ministry of Education said that this exam will be conducted again and new dates will be announced soon. The matter of irregularities in the exam will be handed over to the CBI.

UGC-NET exam was conducted on 18 June itself. But after complaints of irregularities in it, the Ministry of Education decided to cancel it. After the matter goes to the CBI, important information related to these irregularities can come to the fore.

How many people took the exam?

More than 11 lakh candidates took part in this exam. This exam was conducted at 1205 examination centers in 317 cities. A total of 11,21,225 candidates appeared in it.

Can NEET be cancelled?

After the NEET results were announced on June 4, protests are being held across the country alleging rigging in NEET. Several petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court. Cases have been filed in the High Courts of different states. The Supreme Court has already heard the matter and has refused to cancel the exam. However, the hearing in this case is scheduled on July 8, in which the petitions for cancellation of the exam and investigation by the CBI will be heard. The 2015 case can also be argued in this, in which the exam was canceled after irregularities came to light. However, this is not that easy.

Cancelling NEET is a challenge because

The Ministry of Education has canceled the NET exam, but it is difficult for the ministry to do so in the case of NEET. The first reason for this is the load of the exam. Actually, the number of people who registered for NET was 11 lakh, while 24 lakh candidates appeared for the NEET exam.

The result of NEET has been declared on 4th June, the ministry has already ordered for re-examination of about 1563 students who were given grace marks and their examination is also to be held on 23rd June.

The Supreme Court will hear this case on 8th July, while the date for starting the counseling of NEET has been set as 6th July, in such a situation, along with cancelling the exam, the counseling will also have to be cancelled.

Even if the exam is cancelled, then preparation will have to be started again for it, it may take a long time. In such a situation, the entire session of the candidates can be affected.

What did the Supreme Court say?

The Supreme Court had made a strict comment while hearing this case on 18th June, the court had said that if there is even 0.001 percent rigging in this case, then strict action will be taken. The court also said with this that the hard work done by the children cannot be forgotten. Apart from this, the court also said in its comment that if there is any irregularity in the examination, it will also affect public health. Now the Supreme Court will hear the petition to cancel the exam on July 8, for which a reply has also been sought from NTA. However, before that, a hearing is also to be held in the Supreme Court on June 20 to transfer the petitions filed across the country to the Supreme Court.

Why questions were raised on NEET, what happened till now?

The NEET result was released on June 4, the day of the Lok Sabha election results. Questions were raised on it since the result was released.

Actually, this happened with 67 toppers, who got 720 out of 720 marks. Apart from this, 6 students from the same center had topped. Two other students got 719 and 718 marks.

As soon as this matter came to light, allegations of rigging started being made and protests started across the country demanding cancellation of the exam.

When the protests started, the NTA clarified in this matter that some students have been given grace marks, it is possible that this happened due to this. NTA argued that this was done due to revised answers and loss of time.

When the matter reached the Supreme Court, NTA told the court that grace marks have been given to 1563 candidates. In the court, NTA also said that their examination will be cancelled and the examination will be conducted again.

After the uproar over NEET across the country, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan came forward and admitted that irregularities have been found at two centers, we will take strict action against the culprits.

After this, the date of June 23 was declared for the examination of candidates with grace marks. The result of this examination will be declared on June 30.

Irregularities linked to Gujarat and Bihar

In the NEET case, the accused have now been caught from Bihar and Gujarat. 5 people have been caught in Godhra, Gujarat, checks and electronic devices worth Rs 2.03 crore have been found from them. Apart from this, the investigation of the Economic Offenses Unit is also going on rapidly in Bihar. 13 accused have been arrested in this case. Investigation so far has revealed that the NEET question paper was sent via WhatsApp in Patna. 35 to 40 students sat for the exam in a centre there. When this college was raided, all of them fled and the documents related to the exam were burnt. Allegations are also being made that the paper was explained to the students while sitting in a guest house in Bihar.
